Behind The Scenes

"A man fears fame like a pig fears fat" -Proverb

In some lines of work, whether at or away from the keyboard, to draw attention to one's self is to suggest incompetence. If you cannot handle your affairs quietly and calmly, leaving your hands clean and no discernible footprints, you may as well bag the lot and take up fishing.

However, it is in each of us to want to make ourselves known. We wish to promote ourselves and our many virtues (whether they are recognized by the community of merely self-attributed). There are some people who have made such an industry of promoting their name that their identity becomes meaningless. Poor fellows. The world is full of them, and few recognize they are living out a joke whose punchline, death, is wholly dissatisfying to all but the audience.

The middle way is to behold your accomplishment with a critical eye, neither seeking nor shrinking away from praise and criticism. Be humble in receiving any recognition foisted upon you, and thankful for those the raise a voice contrary to yours.

Then, while nobody is looking, slip out the back door and return to your Works...
